Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month

Visit the Diagnostic Medical Sonography LibGuide for information & resources related to sonography, case studies and more.

Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month (MUAM) is held annually in October to increase awareness of diagnostic medical sonography and the critical role sonographers play in healthcare. The goal of MUAM is to educate the public about the various uses of medical ultrasound beyond pregnancy, highlighting its applications throughout all stages of life and for diverse medical indications.

Many organizations collaborate to promote MUAM, including the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS), the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM), the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE), Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI), and the Society for Vascular Ultrasound (SVU).

These organizations recognize the importance of increasing public awareness and promoting the value of medical ultrasound in healthcare. MUAM provides an opportunity for ultrasound professionals to educate the public about this fast-growing technology and celebrate their profession.
