Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an international health campaign dedicated to promoting screening and prevention of a disease that affects 2.3 million women worldwide. Recognizable by its pink theme, the month features various campaigns and programs from breast cancer advocacy organizations, community groups, and major retailers. These efforts support people diagnosed with breast cancer, including those with metastatic cancer, educate about risk factors, encourage regular screenings starting at age 40 or earlier, and raise funds for research.

In 2024, over 360,000 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer. However, there is hope. Advances in early detection and support are boosting survival rates. When detected early, the 5-year relative survival rate for localized breast cancer is 99%.
