J. Robert Oppenheimer (1904-1967)—often referred to as “the father of the atomic bomb”—was an American theoretical physicist who served as director of the Los Alamos Laboratory during the development of the atomic bomb and later as director of the Institute for Advanced Study. Christopher Nolan’s feature film Oppenheimer opens in theaters on July 21.
